In 2019-2020, the CFB dedicated itself to the theme of contemporary dance with the project “Körperspuren Ball” and then organised 10 rounds, each of them was led by a Berlin independant choregrapher. It brought together two populations that meet far too rarely: the independent contemporary dance scene and senior citizens.

We take this responsibility towards the people who have put a great trust in us and want to build on this by creating the S.K.A.T. (Senior Citizens’ Art Academy for Dance) and thus go one step further.

This serie of events is funded by the Senatverwaltung for Culture and Europe as part of the multi-sector funding for festivals, series and events.

What is S.K.A.T.?

S.K.A.T. (Seniorinnen und Senioren Kunst Akademie für Tanz) is an extensive, challenging, free programme offering that introduces different levels of contemporary dance and is especially – but not only – aimed at older people.

It consists of several modules:
PRACTICE: 10 rounds led by choreographers from Berlin’s independent scene, each with a question about dance.
DISCUSSION: Speakers are invited to provide clarifications and to have a chat with participants
PIECES: 8 guests performances
CREATION: 2 artists residencies at CFB with meetings during rehearsals and/or showings
DISCOVERY: Joint visit to production venues in Berlin
